Support for the organisations that support communities

Development Support Team (DST) was established in response to the newly emerging needs and expectations of the civil society sector. Many organisations engaged in multifaceted development were established in the country in the 80s. These well-meaning organisations needed support for programme design, organisational management, training, documentation, monitoring and other technical aspects.

To provide this support, a group of like-minded social workers, development professionals, academicians and practitioners came together and formed DST — offering need-based, ongoing and participatory support that enables organisations to operate effectively and efficiently.

About us

Where we work now

Two programmes carry most of DST's field work today: community mental health in Pune's urban settlements, and climate-resilient livelihoods with farming families in drought-prone Maharashtra.

Thematic areas

  • Climate change mitigation and its impact on health

Including the impact of climate change on mental health.

  • Natural resource based rural livelihoods

Climate-resilient agriculture, indigenous seeds and allied livelihoods.

  • Gender equality and women's empowerment

Self-help groups, federations, financial literacy and leadership.

  • Disaster management

Flood and drought relief, and long-term mitigation with partner NGOs.

Drought appeal 2026–27

Appeal to address the Maharashtra drought 2026–27

Requesting support for drought relief and long-term mitigation in drought-hit Dharashiv and Satara districts

Large parts of Maharashtra are facing one of the harshest droughts in decades — average rainfall in central and south-east Maharashtra has not reached even 100 mm. In Jawali block (Satara) and Tuljapur block (Dharashiv), where DST already works with women farmers, we are undertaking relief and long-term mitigation to save people's livelihoods.

Your support will go towards

  • Supply of drinking water
  • Fodder and water for cattle
  • Helping communities access government relief
  • Soil and water conservation for the long term

DST is registered under Sections 80G and 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and donations are exempt from income tax as per prevailing rules.
